Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio has reportedly been offered a lucrative €10 million-a-year contract by Newcastle United.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Marco Asensio has a big decision to make on his long-term future. The Real Madrid forward has been offered a bumper contract worth €10 million net per year by Newcastle United over a move in the summer transfer window.

Marco Asensio has blown hot and cold at an alarming rate since returning from a long layoff due to a knee injury at the back end of the 2019/20 season. The Spanish international endured a difficult 2020/21 campaign before losing his place in the national side.

Asensio had also kicked off the ongoing season poorly but has stepped his game up considerably in the past month. The 25-year-old has six goals and one assist in 20 games across all competitions thus far. And although the tally is not too impressive, the player has been showing resurgent signs lately. However, Newcastle United could swoop Asensio away from Real Madrid.

The interest from Newcastle United is understandable, considering they are set to undergo a squad overhaul in the two transfer windows this year. The first of the big signings will soon be completed with the arrival of Kieran Tripper. However, bolstering the attack is imperative for the Tyneside club, as Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin have been the only forwards who have performed consistently this season.

So, it behoves Newcastle United to invest in attackers who can make a meaningful impact in the final third week in week out. To that end, Asensio is a viable target for Newcastle United, with the Magpies already offering him a lucrative contract to prise him away from Real Madrid in the summer.

According to El Nacional, Asensio has been offered a contract worth €10 million net per year. And the Spanish forward now has a big decision to make on his future, as Kylian Mbappe’s acquisition in the summer transfer window could affect his standing in the Real Madrid first-team squad.

On the other hand, the 25-year-old will likely be a pivotal figure at Newcastle United. And if the Magpies manage to stave off the threat of relegation, Asensio could eventually be battling for Premier League glory. So, it remains to be seen if he decides to leave Real Madrid and join the Premier League’s impending bigwigs by penning a €10 million-a-year contract.
