Barcelona reportedly view Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma as a long-term replacement for Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Gianluigi Donnarumma has popped up on the radar of Barcelona over a possible move in next summer’s transfer window. The 22-year-old Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper is seen as a potential long-term replacement for Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Gianluigi Donnarumma joined Paris Saint-Germain this past summer following a productive eight-year stint with AC Milan. Signed as a long-term successor for Keylor Navas, the Italian goalkeeper is yet to get going at Parc des Princes properly as Navas remains the first-choice shot-stopper.

Donnarumma has started only eight of the 19 Ligue games played by PSG while featuring in three of the six matches in the UEFA Champions League. As a result, the 22-year-old is frustrated by his situation at the French club and could seek a summer departure if it does not improve. Such a development has captured the attention of Barcelona.

Donnarumma had been on Barcelona’s radar before his move to PSG was completed. However, with the youngster unsettled at the Ligue 1 club, the Catalan giants are weighing up the prospect of launching the offensive for him in next summer’s transfer window.

Barcelona’s eagerness to sign the 22-year-old has cropped up due to Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s inconsistent displays between the sticks in the past year. As a result, the German international has been heavily linked with a possible exit from Camp Nou, with Bayern Munich keen on signing him.

If ter Stegen were to depart, Barcelona would need to bring in an able replacement. To that end, several goalkeepers have recently emerged on the Blaugrana’s radars, with Donnarumma a viable target. And the La Liga heavyweights are considering opening talks with Mino Raiola to secure his services next summer.

Raiola shares good relations with Joan Laporta, and many of the super agent’s other targets have been heavily linked with Barcelona, including Noussair Mazraoui and Erling Haaland. Signing Donnarumma will be a step in the right direction for Barcelona, and it remains to be seen if the 22-year-old leave Ligue 1 giants PSG only one year after joining them.
