Barcelona are reportedly interested in luring Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva in the upcoming January transfer window.

According to a report from SPORT, Barcelona are planning to raid Premier League champions Manchester City in the January transfer window, with Bernardo Silva one among the players that they are looking to sign.

Silva has been with Manchester City since 2017 and has largely been a key player under Pep Guardiola, barring a small lean period a couple of years ago. To date, the 27-year-old has made 218 appearances for the Cityzens, scoring 39 goals and setting up 46 more, winning a host of titles and trophies with the club along the way.

Silva had his heart set on an exit in the summer transfer window earlier this year, with Barcelona having emerged as his favoured destination. However, a move did not materialise with the Catalans blighted by financial issues. Having stayed put, the Portuguese international has been of Manchester City’s best players this season.

Indeed, the former Benfica star has been a top performer for Guardiola, with his versatility and industry making him a valuable asset to the side. However, it seems like Barcelona, having failed in his pursuit in the summer, have now rekindled their interest in Silva once again ahead of the January transfer window.

The report claims that the Catalan club’s sporting director, Mateu Alemany, has flown to Manchester to hold talks over a transfer, with Raheem Sterling mentioned as one of the possible targets. In addition to the England international, fellow forward Ferran Torres is also on the agenda for the Blaugrana with rumours even stating that the club have a total agreement with the 21-year-old.

Silva, too, is believed to be a player that Barcelona want, with the La Liga heavyweights willing to discuss the possibility of a move for the former AS Monaco man with the Cityzens. Given his ability to play on the right flank or as a false-nine and even in the middle of the park, Silva, with his flexibility and loads of top-level experience, has the potential to be a huge asset for the Catalans if they sign him.

However, any move for the Portuguese international will be anything but straightforward as Manchester City would likely demand a hefty fee for his services, considering that his contract with the club expires in 2025. It remains to be seen who among Torres, Sterling and Silva do Barcelona end up signing in over a month.
