Barcelona have reportedly reached an agreement with Manchester City forward Ferran Torres over a January transfer, but the two clubs need to finalise the deal.

According to a report from Spanish publication MARCA, Barcelona have made Ferran Torres their top priority for the upcoming January transfer window and have already reached an agreement with the Manchester City forward.

Torres, a product of the Valencia youth academy, made close to 100 senior appearances for Los Che before moving to England in the summer transfer window of 2022. Since joining the Cityzens, the 21-year-old has made a positive impression even though he has had to share regular game-time with the likes of Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Riyad Mahrez.

Torres has featured 43 times to date for the Premier League champions in which he has found the back of the net on 16 occasions while he has created four goals for his teammates. Currently out with a foot fracture that he sustained while on international duty with Spain last month, the winger has been on the radars of Barcelona for a while now.

The Catalans’ manager, Xavi Hernandez, has made it clear on multiple occasions that he is in the market for attacking reinforcements considering the club have been thinly stretched in the final third. Ansu Fati has been injured for a large chunk of the season, with the same holding true for Ousmane Dembele, Martin Braithwaite and Sergio Aguero.

In the latter’s case, he might not step out on the football pitch ever again after being diagnosed with a heart condition. It has left Memphis Depay to do all the heavy lifting in attack all by himself, leading to a decline in his form. This had led to Barcelona looking at several options to bolster their frontline, with Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling being touted as a top target.

However, it seems like that the Blaugrana were after Sterling’s teammate, Torres, all along. The report indicates that the 21-year-old’s agent was at Barcelona’s offices this past Tuesday to discuss a transfer, following which the club sporting director, Mateu Alemany, has flown to Manchester to hold discussions with the Cityzens.

It is further stated that Barcelona have a total agreement in place with Torres, who is keen on a move to Camp Nou. However, any deal would hinge on Manchester City’s demands for their forward, considering that the Catalans are not in the pinkest of health financially. Nonetheless, they are hopeful of working out a deal in time for the January transfer window, with the player also having given his go-ahead.
