Barcelona are reportedly readying an offer of €40 million to secure the signing of RB Salzburg’s German striker Karim Adeyemi in the January transfer window.
According to a report from SPORT1’s Patrick Berger, Barcelona are ready to step up their pursuit of Karim Adeyemi and are preparing to make an offer of €40 million to RB Salzburg for the teenage forward.
Adeyemi has been with RB Salzburg since 2018, having signed from Unterhaching, but spent the first eighteen months of his spell in Austria away on loan at FC Liefering. Having impressed for his temporary club, the 19-year-old was brought back to Salzburg in January last year, from which point on, he has been a consistent performer.
Adeyemi has been in scintillating form in the ongoing campaign, having already plundered 15 goals and two assists from 22 matches across all competitions. A part of the Germany Under-21 side that won the European Championships earlier this year, the 19-year-old has made three appearances for Die Mannschaft’s senior team, scoring on his debut.
Adeyemi’s rapid progression over the past year has turned heads across Europe, with top clubs vying to sign him up. Indeed, the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool and Real Madrid have all shown an interest in the 19-year-old, with Barcelona also entering the fray for the teenage sensation’s signing.
It goes without saying at this point that the Catalans need to bring in a new centre-forward during the January transfer window. Sergio Aguero has been sidelined indefinitely due to his heart condition, while Luuk de Jong is not in the plans of newly-appointed manager Xavi Hernandez moving forward.
With the likes of Martin Braithwaite, Ansu Fati and Ousmane Dembele all battling injury issues, it becomes imperative that the Blaugrana sign a new striker when the transfer window opens in a little over a month. And Adeyemi has emerged as a top transfer target for Barcelona, with the club having initiated contacts with his agent earlier this month.
Now, they are set to take the next step in their pursuit of the German sensation by launching an offer of €40 million for his services this week. The report also states that the Catalan giants have a five-year contract ready for Adeyemi, although they will face serious competition from Borussia Dortmund in pursuit of the youngster.
The Bundesliga giants are willing to offer only €35 million, including add-ons, which will be less than what Barcelona are putting on the table. In addition, the Black and Yellows’ proposed contract offer is also believed to be less than what the La Liga bigwigs are ready to hand the German striker.
So, it remains to be seen which way the pendulum swings in this battle between Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund for the signing of Adeyemi come January.
