West Ham United could turn to Middlesbrough defender Dael Fry to solve their issues in defence in the January window.

According to Football League World, West Ham United are interested in signing Dael Fry from Middlesbrough in the January window to solve their defensive crisis. David Moyes could turn to the 24-year-old after losing Angelo Ogbonna to a long-term injury.

It’s all merry at the London Stadium at the moment after their momentous victory over Liverpool in the Premier League. The win let the Hammers climb up to third on the table, ahead of the Merseysiders, making them contenders for the top four.

While David Moyes revered in the win, it was somewhat overshadowed later after Angelo Ogbonna’s injury diagnosis pointed at an ACL problem. The Italian is expected to miss the remainder of the season, which leaves the Hammers short in defence. They do have Craig Dawson and Issa Diop, but Moyes would like another option as cover.

Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma had formed a solid partnership at the back, and the Italian’s loss will certainly be felt in the long run of the season. Moyes has eyes on a few options to be targetted in the January window, with the likes of Dael Fry mentioned among those the club might be interested in signing.

The Middlesbrough defender has played quite a lot in the Championship and has featured 11 times in the league this season. He is showing the talent that could be deemed good enough for the Premier League. While Boro consider him an important part of the team, they might entertain a good offer.

It’s quite unclear how much Middlesbrough might demand for the Englishman whose contract expires in the summer of 2023. The Hammers could make a reasonable offer in January to force the Teessiders’ hand into letting the player leave. However, considering west Ham’s position in the Premier League, Fry might be tempted to move.

West Ham are keeping their options open and have other names on their list too. There are links to QPR defender Rob Dickie, while Duje Caleta-Car has also been linked although it looks like Fry might be a priority target. It will be interesting to see if a move transpires in the January transfer window.
