West Ham United have entered the race to sign Queen Park Rangers defender Rob Dickie in the winter transfer window.

According to an exclusive report from Football League World, Rob Dickie has emerged as a transfer target for West Ham United. The Premier League outfit is currently on the lookout for defensive reinforcements in the upcoming January transfer window after their key player Angelo Ogbonna picked up a serious ACL injury.

Ogbonna has been ruled out for the majority of the campaign, leaving David Moyes devoid of a reliable senior defensive option. As a result, the club are eyeing a move for Dickie, who has made a solid impression at QPR since joining the club last year.

Formerly of the Reading youth academy, the tall centre-back has notched up 66 competitive appearances for the club. His contributions at the back have been critical in helping the team finish in the top half of the league table. The player is now being regarded as one of the best defenders in the Championship.

Dickie’s success has now put West Ham on alert as they look to replace Ogbonna for the remainder of the campaign. The former Juventus star had built a formidable defensive partnership alongside Kurt Zouma and Craig Dawson this season, helping the Hammers enjoy a fantastic start to the campaign.

However, his injury leaves Moyes in a dilemma. Although the former Manchester United boss does have Issa Diop on standby, he certainly prefers British talents, who are more suited to the game.

Dickie fits the bill well due to his experience in English football. He has featured in a combined total of almost 200 appearances in the Championship, League One and League Two. His slow rise to prominence has not gone unnoticed either, with many even believing that he has what it takes to thrive in the Premier League.

The 25-year-old is one of the two main targets for West Ham in January, with the other being Dael Fry. The Middlesbrough star offers more pedigree at the highest level of football, though the club have been linked with more decorated stars as well.

Croatian international Duje Caleta-Car, for one, is one of the top targets for West Ham in their pursuit of a new defender. However, it won’t be surprising to see Moyes preferring homegrown players, which is where Fry or Dickie come into the fray once again.
