Chelsea are reportedly set to rival Manchester United, Liverpool and other clubs in the pursuit of Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans.
According to Calciomercato, Leicester City are set to face a battle in keeping hold of Youri Tielemans. The star midfielder has attracted the attention of multiple major clubs across Europe due to his consistent performances in the Premier League and a move away from King Power Stadium could soon be on the horizon.
Chelse, Manchester United and Liverpool are few of the Premier League clubs to have registered their interest in Tielemans. However, the Belgian is also courted by foreign clubs like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
Formerly of the RSC Anderlecht academy, Tielemans initially joined Leicester City on loan back in January 2019, before making his move permanent for a fee of €45 million. It was a risky decision at the time, but one that has completely paid off, as the Belgian has since established himself as one of the most complete midfielders in the Premier League.
The 24-year-old’s combination with Wilfred Ndidi have made the Foxes one of the best teams in England, with the midfielder notching up a total of 121 competitive appearances for the club so far.
Manchester United and Liverpool have been linked with a move for Tielemans in the past, as they are in the market for a new midfielder who can offer a spark in the middle of the park. But it appears Chelsea, too, have joined the chase, with Thomas Tuchel seemingly desperate to further bolster his options in midfield.
The Blues are already exploring a number of targets in the market, including Marcelo Brozovic. But the Croatian international, also targeted by Newcastle United, is likely to extend his contract at Inter Milan, while another of Chelsea’s top target in Aurelien Tchouameni lacks experience at the highest level of football.
This is where Youri Tielemans comes into the fray, thanks to his brilliant track record in the Premier League. In addition to his experience, the Belgian offers a lot of tenacity, aggression and work ethic in midfield, thus making him a definite upgrade over Mateo Kovacic.
However, Leicester City are set to demand a fortune for the services of the in-demand Belgian, whose status in the Premier League coupled with the rapid inflation in the market in recent years, could help him serve as a major financial outlet for the club. Therefore, it remains to be seen if any of Chelsea, Liverpool or Manchester United can manage to land the 24-year-old in the coming time.
