Real Madrid and Liverpool are reportedly in a transfer tussle to secure the services of 33-year-old Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Liverpool and Real Madrid are among the clubs that are set to engage in a transfer tussle for Robert Lewandowski. The 33-year-old striker could be on his way out of Bayern Munich in next summer’s transfer window.

Robert Lewandowski has been one of the best strikers in the world for the better part of the past decade or so, having first made his name while Borussia Dortmund before taking his career to the next level upon joining Bayern Munich. Currently playing the best football of his career, the Polish striker has 13 goals and an assist in just 10 appearances so far this season.

His exploits have made him one of the leading candidates to win the Ballon d’Or this year. At club level, though, as per recent reports, Lewandowski could be on his way out of Bayern Munich next summer, with the 33-year-old keen on one final adventure before hanging up his boots. Such a development has piqued the interest of Real Madrid and Liverpool.

Real Madrid are primarily targeting a move for Erling Haaland, who is viewed as the long-term successor for Karim Benzema. However, the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Barcelona are all hot on the trails of the Borussia Dortmund striker, which is why Los Blancos need to keep their options open.

With that in mind, Lewandowski is a viable alternative, although he will only be a short-term solution for Real Madrid. Liverpool, on the other hand, could add an entirely new dimension to their attacking unit by signing someone like the 33-year-old, who has emerged as a target for them.

Currently, the first-choice trio of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, along with Diogo Jota, are all going strong at Liverpool. However, in Lewandowski, Liverpool can add a proper poacher, who would add more goals to their game, making him an option worth considering.

However, as per recent reports, Lewandowski would favour a move to Real Madrid if and when he leaves Bayern Munich next summer. What now remains to be seen is if Liverpool can do anything to usurp Real Madrid in pursuit of the 33-year-old, who could well win the Ballon d’Or this year.
