Newcastle United are looking into signing James Tarkowski from Burnley in the January window as the Magpies’ new ownership eyes quick solutions.

According to The Telegraph, James Tarkowski could become an important target for Newcastle United in the January window. The club’s new owners are keen on finding quick solutions to strengthen the playing squad and are prepared to spend big in the next window.

Newcastle United have garnered headlines everywhere after the Saudi Arabian sovereign fund bought the club from former owner Mike Ashley in a massive takoever. The resources at the disposal of the new owners have been the talking point, and all eyes will be on the Magpies when the January window opens up.

Under the guidance of Amanda Staveley and the PIF, Newcastle are expected to embark on a transfer spending spree to strengthen the squad for the immediate future and then think of their future in the next windows. Within days of the takeover, the club are already linked with many names across the Premier League and Europe.

Edinson Cavani’s name has been mentioned as a possible striker target from Manchester United, while Keylor Navas and Mauro Icardi from PSG are also reportedly on the list. Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope also remains linked, and now his teammate James Tarkowski has emerged as their top defensive target.

Tarkowski is in a unique situation with his contract running out next summer. The 28-year-old has Premier League pedigree and should improve the current Newcastle United backline with immediate effect. He also holds a gentleman’s agreement with Burnley, who will allow him to leave in the January window.

However, Sean Dyche’s side will be hoping to take advantage and squeeze a sizeable transfer fee for one of their prominent stars. However, Tarkowski can walk away on a free transfer in the summer, which puts the Lancashire club in a difficult spot, allowing Newcastle to negotiate a discounted price for the defender.

The new ownership at St. James Park have identified many deficiencies in the present playing squad and want to strengthen in January. If reports are accurate, the club can spend around £190 million in the upcoming window alone and still be within Financial Fair Play rules.

However, they may not spend that kind of money straight away but certainly, look to strengthen vital areas of the pitch such as central defence and probably bring in a notable striker. If reports and links are believed, then Newcastle are prepared to kick up a storm in the next windows, with their deep well of resources.
