Newcastle United are in contention to sign Manchester United outcast Anthony Martial, having recently made contact for the attacker.

If reports from Stretty News are to be believed, Newcastle United have recently joined the race to sign Anthony Martial. The Manchester United attacker is facing an uncertain future at the club after falling behind in the pecking order this season and is expected to depart in the upcoming January transfer window.

Plenty of clubs, including Borussia Dortmund, are keeping an eye on Martial. But it appears there is the latest player in this pursuit, in the form of Newcastle United.

The Tyneside outfit has been recently boosted by the takeover of a Saudi Arabian backed consortium, essentially making them the club backed by the richest owners in world football. However, the Magpies cannot simply splash the cash right away and may have to build a better squad that can compete for higher places before they can attract superstars.

As a result, Newcastle United have registered interest in Anthony Martial. The Frenchman has endured a difficult spell at Manchester United, especially in recent years when the attacker has been often subjected to malign.

The summer arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho coupled with the breakthrough of Mason Greenwood has further diminished his role in Manchester bUnited’s first-team. In fact, the former AS Monaco starlet has made only two starts in the league so far this season, though he did star in the recent draw with Everton.

Nevertheless, Martial’s struggles have not deterred Newcastle United, who are in the market for new attackers. They are already in danger of losing star player Allan Saint-Maximin, though it remains unclear as to how the takeover is going to affect his commitment.

Either way, the addition of Martial might prove to be a massive coup for the Magpies. The Frenchman brings immense experience at the highest level of football, making himself a useful alternative for Joelinton and Co.

Martial is not the only striker to be linked with a move to Newcastle United, though. Earlier this week, recent reports suggest that the Magpies are in the market for PSG forward Mauro Icardi, who is set to be a direct upgrade over Joelinton and Callum Wilson.
