Manchester United are reportedly pondering over a potential late move for Luka Jovic, who could leave Real Madrid this summer.

According to a report by Tribal Football, Manchester United are weighing up the possibility of signing Luka Jovic in a late move before the summer transfer window slams shut. The 23-year-old Serbian forward could be on his way out of Real Madrid, bringing an end to a miserable spell at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Luka Jovic joined Real Madrid from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2019, arriving at the Spanish club amid a lot of hype surrounding his talent on the back of a scintillating 2018/19 campaign. However, the switch to Real Madrid has not panned out as envisioned, for either the player or the club.

While he was expected to play second fiddle to Karim Benzema initially, the 23-year-old failed to make any sort of impression when he was given his chances. To date, he has featured 32 times for Real Madrid, managing a paltry return of just two goals and as many assists. A loan move back to Eintracht Frankfurt did not work out either and Los Blancos are eager to cut their losses on him. To that end, Manchester United could come to their rescue.

Manchester United have not shown much of an inclination to sign a striker this summer, although they have been linked with the likes of Harry Kane, Erling Haaland and Danny Ings, among others. The reluctance to sign a centre forward, though, does make some sense.

That is because Edinson Cavani has been mighty impressive since joining on a free transfer last summer while Mason Greenwood is touted to be the long-term solution as the focal point of the attack. It is also important to note that Anthony Martial is likely to stay put at Manchester United despite links with Inter Milan recently.

So, it is hard to see where a new striker would fit in, although as per the report, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is considering Jovic as a potential late addition this summer. As far as the 23-year-old’s prospects at Real Madrid go, they are unlikely to improve amid their links with several strikers – young and old – including Benjamin Sesko, Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski.

What now remains to be seen is if Manchester United firm up their interest in the Real Madrid outcast by launching the offensive for him ahead of the end of the summer transfer window. For now, Jovic’s situation at the Spanish club is as precarious as it has ever been, with a summer exit likely.
