Harvey Elliott joined Liverpool from Fulham in the summer of 2019 and enjoyed an impressive maiden campaign at Anfield. While he was largely utilised in the reserve side, the teenage whizkid was nothing short of brilliant in the appearances he did make with the first-team.
However, it was during a loan spell with Blackburn Rovers that Elliott has really taken a major step in blossoming into a top class forward. The 18-year-old raked in a tally of seven goals and 11 assists in 42 appearances for the Riversiders and has since returned to Liverpool for pre-season.
During the Reds’ pre-season campaign, Elliott has been so impressive that former Liverpool ace Jason McAteer compared him to Xavi and Andres Iniesta recently. However, despite making quite an impression, the teenager could be served well by a loan move away from Anfield for a second successive summer, which is where Sheffield United come into the picture.
Sheffield United have already been linked with one player from a Premier League heavyweights, with James Garner on their radar as a potential midfield reinforcement. And Elliott is the kind of player the Championship club could do with, seeing as they are laden with centre-forward without really having any wide options.
While Elliott could be an option for Jurgen Klopp in the scenario that Xherdan Shaqiri calls it quits at Anfield, having recently iterated his desire to leave Liverpool. As for Sheffield United, they are hoping to tempt Liverpool with a loan offer for the 18-year-old.
The Championship club are also hopeful of making good use of Slavisa Jokanovic’s strong relationship with the player in order to secure his services. What now remains to be seen is if Sheffield United manage to land Elliott, or if he stays put at Liverpool this summer.
