Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Donny van de Beek and have approached Manchester United over a loan deal this summer.

According to an exclusive report by Daily Star, Donny van de Beek has popped up on the radar of Real Madrid over a move in the summer transfer window. Manchester United have received an approach from Los Blancos over an initial loan deal, which would also include a clause to make the move permanent next summer.

Donny van de Beek joined Manchester United from Ajax last summer as the marquee signing for the Red Devils in a £40 million deal. The move, though, has not panned out as envisioned for either of the two parties, with the 24-year-old Dutch international being an outcast for much of the 2020/21 campaign.

Playing second fiddle to Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba, van de Beek managed to start just 15 of the 61 matches that Manchester United played last season. Despite a supposed drop in stature, the player’s stock is still reasonably high, with Real Madrid showing an interest in signing him this summer.

Real Madrid are believed to be in the market for a midfielder this summer owing to the fact that Luka Modric is in the final stage of his glittering career while Toni Kroos is approaching the twilight of his playing days as well, having taken the first step of retiring from international football. To that end, the Merengues have been linked with plenty of midfielders this summer, including Tanguy Ndombele.

Now, though, it looks like van de Beek has emerged as a serious target, with Real Madrid even approaching Manchester United for a loan deal. The move will only cost Los Blancos an initial £2 million fee, although the deal will also contain a purchase clause that will help the Red Devils recoup most of the £40 million outlay they made to sign the 24-year-old last summer.

The Dutch international was reportedly offered to Barcelona as well while Ajax have also made an approach to Manchester United over re-signing him just one year after his departure from the Johan Cruijff ArenA. However, Real Madrid hold an edge over the Dutch giants, whose approach has been rejected as they were unwilling to include a purchase clause.

For now, it looks like Real Madrid are serious to get their hands on van de Beek at long last, and it will be interesting to see if a loan move sees the light of the day. Manchester United, on their part, are in the market for a midfielder as well, having been linked with Eduardo Camavinga and a few others. As things stand, van de Beek faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford.
