Carlo Ancelotti reportedly wants Real Madrid to make a move for 25-year-old Dutch international Denzel Dumfries this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Carlo Ancelotti has recommended Denzel Dumfries’s name to Real Madrid as a defensive reinforcement in the summer transfer window. The Real Madrid manager had been keen on reuniting with the 25-year-old Dutch international during his time at Everton as well.

Denzel Dumfries joined PSV Eindhoven from Heerenveen in the summer of 2018 and has since been a mainstay at the back for the Dutch giants. At the same time, he has also continued to carve out a place for himself in the Dutch national side and has been one of the ever-present figures for the Oranje at UEFA Euro 2020.

2020/21 was a strong season for Dumfries, who produced a fine tally of four goals and nine assists in 41 appearances across all competitions. And, he is one of the top scorers at the Euros, showing tremendous attacking potential from the right-back slot. It now looks like his performances have been taken note of, with Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti an admirer.

Heading into the summer transfer window, the right-back slot could be a position that can possibly be bolstered by Real Madrid, depending on how Lucas Vazquez is utilised in the upcoming season. If the Spaniard returns to being a full-time winger, Los Blancos will be in need of signing a right-back, as Alvaro Odriozola is likely to be sold this summer amid interest from AC and Inter Milan.

To that end, Real Madrid have been linked with Giovanni Di Lorenzo, with Dumfries being a viable target as well. In fact, Ancelotti had been eager to sign the 25-year-old while he was in-charge of Everton, who continue to be hot on the trails of the Dutch international at present as well.

With Dani Carvajal struggling with a few fitness issues of late, Dumfries could be just the kind of player whose presence can help mitigate the potential absence of the Spanish defender. However, for now, Real Madrid have merely been recommended to sign the PSV defender.

What now remains to be seen is if Real Madrid do heed Ancelotti’s advice by making a move for the 25-year-old in the summer transfer window or if they turn their attention elsewhere in search of a right-back reinforcement instead.
