Serie A duo AC Milan and Inter Milan are reportedly keen on signing Alvaro Odriozola from Real Madrid this summer.

According to Spanish journalist Edu Pidal, Alvaro Odriozola has been told that he has no future at Real Madrid and must look for a new club in the summer transfer window. The interest in him stems from Serie A, with AC Milan and Inter Milan vying for the Spaniard’s signature.

Odriozola joined Real Madrid from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2018 but has failed to take his career to the next level since arriving in the Spanish capital. With Dani Carvajal the first-choice right-back for Los Blancos, the 25-year-old was always going to have an uphill task of usurping his compatriot.

This past season, the Spaniard reached his lowest ebb at Real Madrid, with even Lucas Vazquez usurping him in the pecking order. As a result, Odriozola started just 10 of the 52 games that Real Madrid played in 2020/21. With Carlo Ancelotti now in charge at the club, Odriozola seems to have reached the end of the line, with Serie A duo AC Milan and Inter Milan interested.

AC Milan need to sign a replacement for Diogo Dalot, who has returned to Manchester United after the end of his loan spell at San Siro. With Davide Calabria now the only option at Stefano Pioli’s disposal, it is imperative that the Rossoneri secure the services of a right-back, making Odriozola a viable target.

On the other hand, Inter Milan are in a precarious situation over the future of former Real Madrid defender Achraf Hakimi, who is being linked with a number of top European clubs amid financial issues at the club. The likes of Real Madrid, PSG and Chelsea have been linked with the youngster, and his departure would necessitate the need for a replacement which is where Odriozola comes in.

As far as the player’s situation at Real Madrid is concerned, with Lucas Vazquez signing a new deal with the club, there really is no need for Los Blancos to keep hold of him. What now remains to be seen is if Odriozola ends up plying his trade in Serie A next season or if some other suitor emerges in his pursuit, with Atletico Madrid linked with a shock move as well.
