RB Salzburg’s prolific Zambian forward Patson Daka is reportedly keen on a switch to Premier League bigwigs Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

According to a report from Football Insider, Liverpool have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of RB Salzburg centre-forward Patson Daka. The 22-year-old Zambian international is said to be extremely keen on signing for the Merseyside giants this summer.

Daka has been with Salzburg since 2017 but it was only after the departure of Erling Haaland to Borussia Dortmund in January last year that the young forward took centre stage. Indeed, of his 68 goals in 125 appearances for the Austrian giants, 61 have come in the last two seasons, with the 22-year-old enjoying his most prolific campaign last time out, as he plundered 34 goals in 42 games.

Daka’s exploits in Austria have landed him on the radars of many top clubs across Europe, but the strongest interest is coming from within the Premier League where Liverpool are keen on signing him, along with the likes of Leicester City and Chelsea.

Liverpool’s interest in Daka makes a lot of sense considering the underwhelming goal-return of Roberto Firmino. While he remains a key member for the Reds due to his off-the-ball contributions, playing as a No. 9 his goal tally hasn’t been good enough. And that is something that Jurgen Klopp & co. must address if they wish to topple Manchester City from their perch next season.

To that end, Daka has emerged as a priority target for Liverpool, with recent reports even indicating that the Reds were closing in on a deal for the 22-year-old. And, in a boost for the Reds, their interest is reciprocated by the player as well, who is understood to very keen on making the switch to Anfield this summer.

In fact, the aforementioned report even goes on to add that Daka has turned down Liverpool’s Premier League rivals West Ham United as well as Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco in order to push through a transfer to the Merseyside. Liverpool are now said to have made contact with Salzburg to understand what it would take for them to sign the Zambian, with a transfer fee of £17 million being quoted.

As things stand, it seems like Liverpool may be inching closer to capturing the transfer of Daka in the current transfer window. In case the move does hit a snag, the Reds have options lined up in the form of Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic, for whom they are having to battle Chelsea.
