Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly been showing an interest in signing Francisco Trincao from Barcelona this summer.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Wolverhampton Wanderers are starting their work for the summer following the appointment of Bruno Lage. To that end, Barcelona winger Francisco Trincao is the subject of interest from the Premier League outfit over a move in the summer transfer window.

Trincao joined Barcelona from Braga last summer amid a lot of hype surrounding his potential. However, the 21-year-old endured a largely forgettable 2020/21 campaign, spending much of the season on the periphery. With Ronald Koeman switching to a 3-5-2 formation midway through the campaign, the young winger only managed 10 starts in all competitions.

As things stand, he is quite a misfit in the system in place at Barcelona. And with the Blaugrana in the market for attacking reinforcements – Raheem Sterling is among those linked – there is a feeling that Trincao could become surplus to requirements. If he does leave Barcelona, his next destination could be the Premier League, with Wolves showing an interest in him.

Wolves are coming off the back of their worst campaign since their return to the Premier League. After finishing in the bottom half of the table, Nuno Espirito Santo called it quits at the Molineux, with Bruno Lage taking charge of the Black Country outfit, who are now putting their plans for the summer in place.

Trincao, to that end, could be a viable target for Wolves, considering Daniel Podence and Pedro Neto are recovering from long-term injuries. In addition, former Barcelona winger Adama Traore has been linked with a move to Chelsea. Therefore, swooping Trincao away from Barcelona would be a step in the right direction, with the 21-year-old also adding to the Portuguese core.

Speaking of the Portuguese core, Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Ruben Neves could leave Wolves this summer amid links with Premier League heavyweights Arsenal. As for Trincao, it is still not clear if Barcelona would be open to a summer transfer, with Koeman set to take the final call on him soon.

For now, it looks like Wolverhampton Wanderers have identified Trincao as a potential target to bolster their attack this summer, and it remains to be seen if the 21-year-old winger leaves Barcelona this summer.
