Barcelona midfielder Lucas de Vega, who is entering the final year of his deal with the club, is reportedly on the radars of Tottenham Hotspur.

According to a report from SPORT, Barcelona youngster Lucas de Vega could be on his way out of the club this summer, with Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur showing an interest in securing his services.

De Vega has been with Barcelona since 2016, having signed on as a teenager and has grown through the ranks to become a part of the Catalans’ B team. The 21-year-old spent the 2019/20 campaign out on loan where he did quite well, but was unable to build on it and managed just 16 appearances for Barcelona B side in the recently-concluded campaign, in which he scored one goal and set up two more.

De Vega is entering the final year of his contract with Barcelona and the Catalans are open to handing him a new deal, but it would be on reduced terms due to the budgetary constraints.

And while the 21-year-old is also said to be keen on continuing with the club, the report adds that there is a feeling that the best course of action for all parties would be to part ways given as the Brazilian has fallen behind the likes of Ilaix Moriba, Nico Gonzalez and Alex Collado in the order of prominence within the club, although Moriba himself is attracting interest amid an unresolved contract situation.

This has put Tottenham, among other clubs, on high alert. The North London giants had made a play to sign De Vega in the summer window last year as well but Barcelona had turned down their offer, along with a few other clubs from the lower division of Spain. However, with the 21-year-old facing an uncertain future in Catalonia, Spurs are keeping a close eye on the situation.

Should they end up making a move for the former Brazil youth international, it is very much likely that De Vega would be ending up with Tottenham’s reserve squad given as fellow youngsters Oliver Skipp, who enjoyed a fine loan spell at Norwich City last season, and Harvey White likely to be ahead of him in the pecking order of things.

Apart from Tottenham, Spanish sides like Real Zaragoza and Cartagena, where De Vega has played previously, are also interested in his services. It now remains to be seen whether the 21-year-old remains at Barcelona or ends up making the switch to London this summer.
