West Ham United are set to face fresh competition from Norwich City in the pursuit of Manchester United defender Brandon Williams this summer.

According to an exclusive report from The Sun, Norwich City have entered the race to sign Brandon Williams, joining West Ham United and Southampton in the pursuit of the Manchester United defender, who is likely to be loaned out in the upcoming summer transfer window.

A product of the Manchester United youth academy, Williams was tipped to make his big breakthrough in the 2020/21 campaign, especially after making 36 competitive appearances last term. However, the summer arrival of Alex Telles coupled with Luke Shaw’s vast improvement this season have massively restricted the youngster’s game-time with the English giants.

The 20-year-old has featured in only six minutes in the Premier League this term and has only been a regular in the Carabao Cup and the UEFA Europa League, meaning he does have a chance of featuring in Manchester United’s upcoming game second leg semi-final tie against AS Roma this midweek.

Nonetheless, it is not enough a player of Williams’s potential and this is why the youngster has attracted the interest of West Ham United. The London outfit have already had a lot of luck in loaning one Manchester United star in Jesse Lingard in January and are actively keen on making the deal permanent after the playmaker has been involved in 13 goals in 12 league matches.

It appears Brandon Williams has been identified as an ideal fit in David Moyes’ wing-back system. The youngster loves to get forward, as well as having the ability to play on both flanks, making him a tailor-made component in a back-three.

Williams’s versatility, though, could also be useful for another interested club in Norwich City. The Canaries might need a new right-back summer, amid speculations linking Max Aarons to a move away from Carrow Road. The Englishman, in fact, has been linked with a move for Manchester United as well, which could boost Norwich’s hopes of signing Williams in return, albeit in a temporary deal.

Williams is not the only young Manchester United defender to be linked with a move away from Old Trafford, though. Another player likely to depart the club, perhaps with more permanence, is Axel Tuanzebe, who has had a difficult couple of seasons since returning from his successful loan spell as Aston Villa.

It will be interesting to see whether the Red Devils opt to only loan out Tuanzebe, but it is perhaps needless to point out that both of these two young defenders could benefit from a move away from Old Trafford next season. As for Williams, it remains to be seen if London club West Ham land him from Manchester United.
