Manchester United are reportedly set to prioritise a move for Norwich City youngster Max Aarons in the summer transfer window.

According to a report from the Express, Premier League heavyweights Manchester United are ready to launch a summer move for Norwich City right-back Max Aarons.

The 21-year-old came through the youth ranks at Carrow Road and played an integral role in the 2018/19 campaign which saw them earn promotion to the Premier League. And even though the last campaign ended with relegation for the Canaries, Aarons made a solid impression in his debut season in the top-flight.

Now back in the Championship, Aarons has continued in his impressive ways and has managed to catch the eyes of Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window.

Having sold Timothy Fosu-Mensah in the January transfer window and with Diogo Dalot out on loan, Manchester United are lacking cover at right-back, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka the only option at manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s disposal. Brandon Williams and Axel Tuanzebe have been used in the position, but both are comfortable at left-back and centre-back, respectively.

Furthermore, there are speculations that AC Milan are keen on converting Dalot’s loan deal into a permanent one in the summer, with Manchester United themselves said to be open to the possibility of such a deal. And should that move go through, the Red Devils will need to delve into the transfer market to strengthen their options at right-back.

Former Tottenham defender and England international Kieran Trippier has been mooted as a target. But, it seems like Manchester United will now be prioritising a move for Aarons before the next season kicks off. Signing the 21-year-old would not only add cover at right-back but would also push Wan-Bissaka to up his game.

Indeed, the former Crystal Palace man has been solid so far in his tenure at Old Trafford but has been found lacking in the attacking facets. And, signing someone like Aarons would spur on Wan-Bissaka to improve his game, much like the effect that Alex Telles’ arrival last summer has had on Luke Shaw at left-back.

However, Manchester United will have to stave off competition from rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who are also interested in Aarons. It now remains to be seen if the Red Devils will make a move for the 21-year-old at the end of the season or decide to hand Dalot another opportunity to prove himself at Old Trafford.
