Liverpool are reportedly closing in on the signing of Wolves and Spain winger Adama Traore ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to a report from Spanish publication El Gol Digital, reigning Premier League champions Liverpool are on the verge of signing Adama Traore from Wolves ahead of the summer transfer window.

Traore, a product of the Barcelona youth academy, moved to England in 2015 in search of regular first-team football. And after difficult stints at Aston Villa and Middlesbrough, the speedy winger found success at Wolves. Since joining the Midlands’ outfit in 2018, the Spaniard has been a key member of Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, although that has somewhat changed this term.

Traore enjoyed a spectacular season last time around, scoring several important goals while firmly establishing himself as one of the most dangerous wingers in the Premier League. This time out, though, the Spanish international has found himself warming the benches more often than not.

Even while playing, Traore has failed to hit the heights of the last season. So far in 2020/21, the 25-year-old has managed just one goal and one assist from 31 appearances across all competitions. Despite his poor numbers, it seems like Liverpool are set to push ahead for his signing in the summer.

Jurgen Klopp & co. raided Wolves last summer as well, for the signing of Diogo Jota, which has worked out great for them so far. However, beyond Jota, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, there has been little in the way of key contributions in attack from the other attacking players.

Furthermore, there are doubts over the future of the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri and Takumi Minamino, who is currently out on loan at Southampton, while Salah himself is said to be contemplating his future at Anfield. So, Liverpool would be in need of attacking reinforcements come the summer transfer window.

Traore is a player that the Reds were heavily linked to last summer. And it seems like they are now poised to land the Spanish international, with Wolves looking at Sevilla winger Lucas Ocampos to replace the exit-bound 25-year-old, as per the report.

Traore, despite his disappointing form this term, has proven himself at the Premier League and can be a devastating force if he gets going. It now remains to be seen if there is any truth to these reports of Liverpool set to capture the 25-year-old’s transfer.
