Liverpool have reportedly stepped up their interest in Adama Traore, having submitted an enquiry for the former Barcelona winger.

According to a report by Daily Mirror, Liverpool are taking concrete steps in their bid to secure the services of Adama Traore. The former Barcelona winger could leave Wolves in the summer transfer window, with the Reds enquiring about him.

Traore was held in high regard while he was at Barcelona’s fabled La Masia academy. However, he could not manage to carve out a place for himself in the first-team setup at Camp Nou and he was subsequently shipped to England. After underwhelming spells with Aston Villa and Middlesbrough, the 24-year-old has struck gold at Wolves.

The player had enjoyed a decent debut campaign with the Midlands club, but has taken his game up a notch this season. Traore has a decent record of 4 goals and 7 assists in 28 Premier League games, with his output evidently improving. His progress has helped the former Barcelona man attract a lot of interest, with Liverpool also keen on him.

The interest from Liverpool is rather interesting. Jurgen Klopp has seen the formidable duo of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah make the two wide spots in his Liverpool side their own, with the two being among the best players in all of Europe. Beyond Salah and Mane, though, the Liverpool boss does not have a great deal of options to consider.

While Divock Origi has made it a habit to score important goals for Liverpool, including the famous Barcelona brace, he is primarily a striker. Even if Origi is used out wide, Klopp seems to have the need to sign a winger, especially in the wake of Xherdan Shaqiri’s uncertain future at Anfield. As a result, Traore is a valuable target for Liverpool.

The Merseyside club have now made their first move for the former Barcelona winger, who has also been previously linked with Manchester City. As for Liverpool, they have enquired about the 24-year-old. While Wolves are desperately hoping to keep hold of Traore, the report suggests that he could be tempted to join a successful squad such as Klopp’s.

A transfer fee has not been mentioned, though. However, previous reports have stated that £70 million should be enough to sign him. What now remains to be seen is if Liverpool do launch the offensive for Traore, or if the former Barcelona star ends up staying at the Molineux.
