Liverpool are reportedly targeting a move for VfB Stuttgart’s 23-year-old striker Sasa Kalajdzic ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to a report from Transfer Market Web, reigning Premier League champions Liverpool are lining up a move for VfB Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Kalajdzic, 23, started out at the youth ranks at Austrian outfit Donau and had stints with the likes of Donaufeld, First Vienna FC and Admira Wacker before joining Stuttgart in the summer of 2019. His first year with the German outfit was largely spent out on the sidelines due to a serious knee injury.

Having returned to full fitness towards the end of the last season, he managed a goal and an assist in six games, playing a small part in Stuttgart’s promotion to Bundesliga. Since arriving in the top-flight, Kalajdzic has been quite impressive, having produced a tally of 13 goals and 4 assists from 24 league outings, which makes him the sixth-highest goalscorer in the 2020/21 Bundesliga.

The report claims that Kalajdzic’s exploits have already led to interest from the likes of AS Roma, West Ham United as well as RB Leipzig. And now, Liverpool too have seemingly entered the race to sign the striker who made his debut for the Austrian national team in October last year.

It has been a season to forget for Liverpool in the Premier League as the defence of their crown has crumbled under the weight of inconsistent performances and serious injuries to key players. There will need to be some restructuring to the squad before next season for Jurgen Klopp’s men to reclaim their throne at the top of English football.

Attack is one area the Reds must look to bolster. Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have had to shoulder the goalscoring burden for the majority of the season with Roberto Firmino’s goal-output taking quite a hit this term. Divock Origi hasn’t been able to make the desired impact either and could be sold in the summer.

So, bringing in another goalscoring forward to compete with and push Firmino would be a prudent move on Liverpool’s part. While the Reds have been mentioned as a potential destination for PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe, a move for him would require a large financial package, which may not be possible given as Liverpool also need to invest in other positions.

Kalajdzic, to that end, would be a more feasible alternative for the Premier League champions. However, given his lack of experience at the highest level, it remains to be seen if Liverpool do make an attempt to sign him in the summer transfer window or look at alternate targets to bolster their attacking unit ahead of next season.
