Liverpool are reportedly ‘pressing’ the entourage of PSG and France superstar Kylian Mbappe to convince them about a prospective summer move to Anfield.
As reported on Canal+ TV Show Late Football Club (h/t Get Football News France), reigning Premier League champions are pushing to open talks with the camp of French superstar Kylian Mbappe over the possibility of a summer transfer.
One of the biggest stars of the game at just 22 years of age, Mbappe’s future at Paris Saint-Germain has been a hot topic of speculation over recent weeks as he is set to enter the final year of his contract with the club at the end of the season. The former AS Monaco forward admitted earlier this month that he was yet to decide whether he wants to pen a new deal with a club or not.
This has sparked a flurry of speculations with regard to his future at Parc des Princes, with reports claiming that Real Madrid and Liverpool are plotting to swoop him away from the French champions before the 2021/22 campaign kicks off.
Mbappe, for his part, is said to be open to the prospect of moving to a club like Real Madrid or Liverpool. Now, as per the aforementioned report, the Premier League outfit are pressing the 22-year-old’s representatives to hold talks over a move as they look to convince him to move to England.
Liverpool have a stacked attacking unit led by the first-choice trident of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. In addition, summer signing Diogo Jota has made a great impact in his short time at the club, while the likes of Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri are also options at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal.
However, Firmino has endured a disappointing campaign so far while both Origi and Shaqiri are facing uncertain futures at the club. So, bolstering their attacking unit in the summer could become imperative for Klopp & co. as they look to continue challenging across all fronts.
Mbappe, to that end, would be the dream signing for the Merseyside giants. The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner has been one of the most prolific goalscorers since breaking onto the scenes with AS Monaco in 2016 and has tasted plenty of success with PSG in his short career at the highest level.
At 22, the French ace has his best years ahead of him, making him a potential long-term investment for Liverpool. So, it does not come as a surprise that the Reds are pushing to open talks with the forward’s camp. Any move, however, could hinge on whether Mbappe decides to sign a new contract with PSG or not. It will be interesting to see how this story unfolds over the coming months.
