Bayern Munich have reportedly entered the race to sign Norwich City starlet Max Aarons, who also has admirers in Manchester United and Barcelona.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, reigning German and European champions Bayern Munich are set to step up their pursuit of Norwich City defender Max Aarons, who is a summer transfer target for Premier League giants Manchester United.

The 21-year-old came through the ranks at Norwich and has grown into an integral member of the Canaries first-team. Having played a key role in their promotion-winning campaign in 2018/19, Aarons impressed heavily in his debut season in the Premier League even though Daniel Farke’s men were relegated.

Back in the Championship, Aarons has continued to make all the right noises, once again essaying a critical role as Norwich push for a return to the top-flight. And his progress has put a host of top clubs across Europe on high alert with Premier League title contenders Manchester United touted to be hugely interested in the Englishman.

Premier League 2020/21 mid-season review: Manchester United

The Red Devils have Aaron Wan-Bissaka as their first-choice right-back currently with Brandon Williams his deputy. Diogo Dalot is out on loan at AC Milan, who are looking to make his transfer permanent at the end of the season. With Williams mostly comfortable on the left side, bringing in another right-back in the summer would be a good move by the club.

To that end, Manchester United are set to prioritise a summer move for Aarons. However, the 20-time English champions are now set to face serious competition from Bayern Munich, who are looking to strengthen their defensive line ahead of the next season.

With Joshua Kimmich revelling in the middle of the park, Hansi Flick has largely relied on Benjamin Pavard at right-back. But the Frenchman hasn’t been consistent enough this term. Furthermore, summer recruit Bouna Sarr has failed to make the desired impact, thus warranting the addition of a new right-sided full-back come summer.

To that end, Bayern are set to push to sign Aarons, having been monitoring the 21-year-old for a couple of years now. They have already made contact with Norwich City over the possibility of a summer transfer, but the discussions have been postponed until the end of the season.

In addition to Bayern Munich and Manchester United, Aarons has admirers in Barcelona as well. In fact, as per the report, the Englishman came close to moving to Camp Nou last summer, but the move fell through. However, with Sergino Dest, Sergi Roberto and Oscar Mingueza as options at Ronald Koeman’s disposal, it is unlikely that they will be revisiting their interest in the Norwich City man.

Aarons’ contract with Norwich runs till the summer of 2024. However, with the likes of Manchester United and Bayern Munich vying for his signing, it is unlikely that he will stay at Carrow Road beyond this season. It now remains to be seen who comes out in the battle to sign the 21-year-old.
