Barcelona have reportedly reached an agreement to sign PSG defender Juan Bernat, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

According to a report from Spanish publication Todo Fichajes, Barcelona have agreed a deal to sign Paris Saint-Germain left-back Juan Bernat when his deal with the French champions runs out at the end of the season.

The 27-year-old has been with PSG since 2018, having joined from German champions Bayern Munich. Till date, the Spaniard has featured 76 times in all competitions for Les Parisiens, scoring six goals and setting up ten more. However, a serious knee injury sustained earlier this season has meant he has featured just thrice in 2020/21.

Bernat’s current contract with PSG expires at the end of the ongoing campaign. This had led to interest from Barcelona, who are in the market for cost-effective deals owing to their serious financial troubles. Now, it is being claimed that the Catalans have reached an agreement with the player over a free transfer later this year.

The left-back slot is something that Barcelona have been looking to strengthen as Junior Firpo has failed to make the desired impact since making the switch to Camp Nou from Real Betis back in 2019. The 24-year-old has not been able to challenge Jordi Alba for the starting berth and has constantly been linked with an exit from the club for some time now.

Furthermore, Alba himself is not getting any younger, with the Spaniard set to turn 32 in a couple of months. So, it goes without saying that the Blaugrana are in need of bolstering their options in the left-back position. This had seen them getting linked with a host of players including Valencia’s Jose Gaya.

However, it seems like Barcelona have now struck up an agreement with Bernat, who had been on the club’s radar since his time with boyhood club Valencia. The 27-year-old may have not played much due to injuries this season but is a vastly experienced customer and has won a host of titles and trophies during his time at Bayern Munich and PSG.

The report states that the 11-time capped Spanish international should be a Barcelona player in the summer should nothing go wrong between now and the end of the season. It remains to be seen if that is indeed the case.
