Bayern Munich are reportedly ready to compete with Manchester United and Chelsea in pursuit of Pau Torres as they look for a replacement for David Alaba.

According to MARCA, Bayern Munich have become the latest club to have set their sights on Pau Torres. The Villarreal centre-back is currently one of the hottest prizes in the transfer market, with a host of top European clubs including English giants like Manchester United and Chelsea interested in his services.

It appears Bayern are also keen on securing his signature in the summer, with Torres reportedly being identified as an ideal replacement for David Alaba. Incidentally, the Austrian international, whose contract at Allianz Arena expires at the end of the season, has been linked with a move to Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The Spanish clubs are joined by Chelsea and Manchester United in pursuit of Torres. It could serve as a positive for the English giants, given the fact that the two Spanish duo are front-runners in the race to sign Alaba, giving them an ideal opportunity to shift their attention towards the Villarreal defender.

Manchester United, in particular, have shown a lot of intent in signing a new centre-back in the summer, notably being linked with a move for Dayot Upamecano. Torres, in that regard, could be an excellent alternative given the success the Spaniard has had in La Liga over the past couple of years.

However, Manchester United could brace themselves for some stiff competition from rivals Chelsea, who are desperate to sign a long-term replacement for the ageing Thiago Silva. Torres fits the bill perfectly due to his positional sense, leadership and ability to play out from the back, which should combine well with the more robust nature of Kurt Zouma or Antonio Rudiger.

As for Bayern, they are already braced to lose Alaba in the summer while the likes of Jerome Boateng and Javi Martinez are also expected to leave the club. The arrival of Torres could, therefore, be a necessity as Hansi Flick looks forward to a complete overhaul in the defensive unit next season.

It is, however, fair to point out that the Bavarians are primarily keen on Bundesliga star Upamecano, which should also bode well for both Manchester United and Chelsea. In fact, it won’t be surprising to see these two clubs emerge at the head of the chasing pack and go head to head in a transfer duel to sign Torres in the summer transfer window.
