Bayern Munich are reportedly viewing Real Madrid outcast Eder Militao as a possible replacement for David Alaba in the summer.

According to a report by Goal, Bayern Munich are the latest club to have emerged in pursuit of Eder Militao over a possible move. The Bundesliga champions have enquired about the situation of the Real Madrid defender, who is also being targeted by a bevy of other top European clubs.

Eder Militao arrived at Real Madrid from FC Porto in the summer of 2019, signed to be a potential long-term successor for Sergio Ramos. The move, though, has not panned out as envisioned for the young Brazilian, who has struggled to establish a foothold within Los Blancos‘ first-team setup and has, in fact, gradually gone down the pecking order.

Initially the first backup option after the first-choice centre-backs Ramos and Raphael Varane, Eder Militao is now behind Nacho in the pecking order. As a result, the 22-year-old has managed just 3 appearances across all competitions this term, with his future unsurprisingly being uncertain. The player’s position at Real Madrid has alerted a number of clubs, one of those being Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich are in a precarious position over the future of David Alaba, who has coincidentally been linked with a Bosman move to Real Madrid. With Jerome Boateng also set to leave the club in the summer transfer window, the Bundesliga champions could be severely depleted at the heart of their defence.

As a result, it is clear that Bayern Munich will delve into the transfer market for a centre-back, with Eder Militao now emerging as a target. While he has struggled at Real Madrid, the Brazilian central defender is still highly regarded and could well be a gamble worth taking.

Apart from Bayern, the likes of Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham are linked with him, However, the report suggests that despite his predicament, Eder would like to stay put at Real Madrid and fight for his place within the squad.

The Merengues, though, might be open to the prospect of offloading him but will want to recoup the majority of the €50 million they shelled out for him. For now, though, it looks like Eder Militao is a target for Bayern Munich to replace a player who could well be on his way to Real Madrid soon.
