Real Madrid are reportedly open to letting Eder Militao join Tottenham Hotspur on loan provided the Premier League side cover his wages.

According to a report from Defensa Central, reigning La Liga champions Real Madrid will consider sending out-of-favour defender Eder Militao on loan to Tottenham Hotspur if the player’s wages are covered in full by the Premier League outfit.

Militao arrived at Real Madrid in the summer of 2019 with a lot of expectations after having impressed heavily for FC Porto and boyhood club Sao Paulo prior to that. However, the 22-year-old’s time in Spain has been forgettable so far, as he has failed to establish himself as a regular in Zinedine Zidane’s setup.

Eder Militao featured just 20 times across all competitions last season and has made just three appearances so far. The Brazilian international has found himself behind Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos and Nacho in the pecking order at Real Madrid, with his last appearance for the Merengues coming in October last year.

Given his situation at the club, Eder is hoping to secure a move away in the ongoing transfer window. And, Tottenham are ready to offer him a way out of the club. This is not the first time that the Lilywhites have been credited with an interest in the 22-year-old, with Jose Mourinho reportedly wanting to sign him last summer as well.

A move never materialised, though, as Tottenham ended up bringing in Joe Rodon from Swansea City. However, with Davinson Sanchez not impressing a great deal when given opportunities and Japhet Tanganga struggling with recurring injury problems, Mourinho is intent on bolstering his defensive options, with Militao emerging as a target.

Given how sparingly Zidane has used Militao, it is clear that the Brazilian international is not a part of the manager’s plans. With Tottenham showing an interest in signing him on loan, Real Madrid are open to sanctioning a move, provided his wages, which could come up to €2.5 million over the second half of the season, are covered by the English club.

Real Madrid and Tottenham worked on two deals in the summer with Gareth Bale joining the Londoners on loan while Sergio Reguilon completed a permanent transfer. It will be interesting to see if the two clubs strike up an agreement for Militao as well, who has also been linked with a surprise move to Liverpool.
