Real Madrid and Barcelona have reportedly set their sights on Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans over a possible move in the future.
As reported by Spanish outlet Fichajes, the three biggest clubs in La Liga have Youri Tielemans in their sights. Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have all added the Leicester City superstar on their transfer wishlist, and a possible bid in the future could be in the offing.
Tielemans initially joined Leicester from AS Monaco in January 2019 on loan before making his move to the Premier League outfit permanent in the subsequent summer. The Belgian international has since been a mainstay in midfield for the Foxes, playing a key role in their re-establishment as a top-six side in the English top-flight.
Since first making his way to the King Power Stadium, Tielemans has gone on to amass 76 outings for the Foxes, chipping in with 11 goals and 13 assists in those appearances. His progress seems to have been duly noted by some of the biggest clubs in the world, none more so than Real Madrid and Barcelona.
The interest from Real Madrid makes a great deal of sense, considering Luka Modric is in the latter stages of his glittering career. Furthermore, the veteran Croat has also been linked with a possible return to Tottenham, although he would prefer ending his career at Real Madrid.
Eduardo Camavinga has been identified as a possible successor for Modric, but Tielemans could be a like-for-like long-term replacement as well, making him a viable target for Real Madrid. Barcelona, on the other hand, could also do with Tielemans, albeit for different reasons.
Sergio Busquets has been visibly declining over the past year or so while summer arrival Miralem Pjanic is now in his thirties as well. So, Barcelona could soon be in need of a long-term holding midfield solution. That is a role that Tielemans has reprised while representing Belgium.
Alternatively, Tielemans’s creative abilities could make him an ideal foil for Frenkie de Jong, should he succeed Busquets at the base of the Barcelona midfield. While Georginio Wijnaldum has been linked with the Catalan giants, Tielemans might just be a better option for them.
Apart from Real Madrid and Barcelona, Atletico Madrid also have Tielemans in their sights, though the report does not mention whether the three La Liga giants will launch the offensive in January or the summer transfer window. Nevertheless, it looks like the 23-year-old could be the subject of a transfer battle between the Spanish heavyweights soon.
