John Barnes believes Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland could be an excellent fit for Liverpool, who have been linked with a move for Paulo Dybala.

As quoted by Goal, Liverpool have been urged to sign Erling Haaland by John Barnes. The former Reds’ star believes that the Borussia Dortmund striker could be a natural fit at Anfield. He has also iterated that the club’s interest in Juventus forward Paulo Dybala does not make any sense.

“Erling Haaland would be a great fit at Liverpool if he was to join the club. He’s strong, aggressive, very good technically as well as being direct in the way he plays, I’ve no doubt he would be the perfect addition to the way that Liverpool play,” Barnes told BonusCodeBets.

Liverpool, however, will not be the only potential suitor for Haaland, who is having a stellar campaign in the Bundesliga. The ex-Red Bull Salzburg forward has already netted as many as 17 goals in just 14 competitive matches. He has been breaking records for fun and has added another dimension in the Dortmund attack.

As a result, Premier League giants Manchester City and Manchester United have been linked with a move for Haaland in recent weeks. Liverpool, however, could potentially have the upper hand as Jurgen Klopp has strong connections with Dortmund while Erling’s father, Alf-Inge Haaland’s past history with Leeds United could potentially rule out a move to Old Trafford.

The Reds are already in desperate need for a new striker owing to Roberto Firmino’s lack of productivity. Liverpool have been lucky with the emergence of Diogo Jota, but any potential injury to any of the star attackers could spell trouble for Klopp, who still does not have a strong number nine.

Haaland, in that regard, could be an ideal option. The 20-year-old has the physical prowess as well as the goalscoring qualities to complement the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. They could all potentially create a deadly attacking partnership, making Liverpool once again the most feared team in Europe.

Unfortunately for the Reds, however, the pursuit of Haaland will be far from easy. Borussia Dortmund, who are braced to offload Jadon Sancho soon, will be determined to keep hold of the Norwegian, whose current contract at the Signal Iduna Park expires in the summer of 2024.

Reports in Germany have already discarded rumours regarding his cheap release clause and given his current form, the Black and Yellows could easily demand a hefty fee for him. A lot could depend on how the season ends for Dortmund as they could face a summer exodus should they fail to qualify for the Champions League next season.
