Arsenal have reportedly set their sights on French star Odsonne Edouard as they weigh up a possible bid in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Daily Mirror, Odsonne Edouard is the subject of interest from Arsenal. The Premier League heavyweights are eyeing a move for the Celtic striker amid uncertainties surrounding the future of club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Edouard first joined Celtic on loan from PSG in the summer of 2017 and enjoyed a decent campaign in Glasgow. The Scottish giants subsequently signed the French forward permanently ahead of the 2018-19 season, but it is this term when the 22-year-old has made a huge step up in his career.

So far this season, Edouard has been the leading light for Celtic, with a fantastic return of 21 goals and 12 assists in just 27 leagues outings. His exploits seem to have caught the eye of one of the biggest clubs in the world, with the player emerging on Arsenal’s radar.

Arsenal are currently in a precarious situation owing to the future of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gunners’ captain has been touted to be set to depart the Emirates this summer. His current contract runs out in 15 months’ time, and there has been very little development on the renewal front.

While Aubameyang has insisted that he is content at Arsenal, the fact remains that until he reaches an agreement with the north London club over a new deal, rumours of an exit will continue to swirl. In such a scenario, Arsenal also need to remain prepared to enter the market for attacking reinforcements.

It now appears as if Arsenal have identified Edouard as a possible solution in attack, although the report suggests that Mikel Arteta wants the club to sign the Frenchman even if Aubameyang stays put. This could have something to do with Alexandre Lacazette’s poor form this term, with the star striker also linked with a possible exit.

As a result, Edouard is a viable target for Arsenal, who could make a move for the player, who is valued at £30 million by Celtic. £30 million is unlikely to make a huge dent on the Gunners’ transfer budget, irrespective of whether they achieve European qualification.

Arsenal, though, might face competition from Everton and Leicester City in the race to sign Edouard in the summer transfer window. It now remains to be seen if Arsenal can secure the services of the 22-year-old French star, as they look bolster their attack.
