Barcelona target Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has insisted that he is content at Arsenal, which might mean a move to Camp Nou is off.

As quoted by The Mirror, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has insisted that he is content at Arsenal. The Gabonese striker has been linked with a move to Barcelona in recent weeks.

There have been several clubs in pursuit of Aubameyang, with Catalan giants Barcelona leading the charge. He is in the last 18 months of his contract with Arsenal and could leave for free next summer if he chooses not to extend his deal.

However, in conversation with the official Arsenal website, Aubameyang said, “It means a lot [to play here]. When I was younger I used to watch Arsenal because they always had great players and they won trophies as well. I think it is really a pleasure to be here, I am really happy – that’s my feeling.”

Aubameyang has been in stellar form this season as well, scoring 17 goals in 26 Premier League games, which has left him second in the Golden Boot leaderboard. However, despite his exploits, Arsenal are far from a Champions League spot, sitting 9th on the table.

The 30-year-old moved to England from Borussia Dortmund as part of an indirect three-way deal between the aforementioned club, Arsenal and Chelsea. In only his second full season at the club, Aubameyang has been named club captain.

Barcelona were in pursuit of Arsenal’s captain as a short-term replacement for Luis Suarez, who turned 33 this year. While the Uruguayan striker’s returns are constantly good, there have been fingers raised on his fitness.

Among others like Timo Werner, Aubameyang had come up as one of the players Barcelona could sign if they are not able to secure the services of Lautaro Martinez. The former Dortmund forward has scored 20 goals for a sixth season running, and promises top-notch goal returns to whichever team he’ll represent.

If Barcelona still look to sign Aubameyang this summer, they could face an uphill task in the wake of his comments. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if the La Liga champions can secure the experienced striker’s services in the summer transfer window.
