Barcelona have been in the hunt for a striker to replace injured Luis Suarez and have shown interest towards Chelsea outcast Olivier Giroud.

According to a report on Daily Mail, FC Barcelona are eager to bring in a replacement for the injured Luis Suarez in the ongoing transfer window and are currently looking to make a move for out of favour Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud.

The Frenchman has dropped down the pecking order with Frank Lampard taking charge at the helm and is set to leave Stamford Bridge in all certainty with his contract also expiring at the end of the season.

The 33-year old World Cup winner with France was linked with Inter Milan and West Ham in the past but both moves have failed to materialize as of yet. And, now FC Barcelona are looking at him as a stopgap option until Suarez gets back to action from injury.

The Catalans could make a move for the experienced target man and may get him for a very nominal transfer fee as his contract is on the verge of expiring with Chelsea and Giroud in all certainty will grab the opportunity to play with Lionel Messi, Antoine Greizmann and others with open arms.

Barcelona’s new manager Quique Setien feels that the Blaugrana are short in striking options with Luis Suarez sidelined for a long time. Hence they were also weighing a move for Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but the former Dortmund man was recently made captain to keep him at North London and it will be difficult to lure him out currently in this transfer window.

Therefore, Giroud looks like a viable choice for the Blaugrana as Setien and company have very less time to make amends to their squad.

The 33-year old is a typical target man and may lead the line for Barcelona allowing Lionel Messi and Antoine Greizmann to deal with open spaces behind him near the final third. He also has the capability to pose a threat in the air from set-pieces and can use his physicality to good effect mainly for the players around him.

It will be interesting to see if Barcelona do act on their reported interest in the Chelsea outcast with less than a week left for the transfer window to slam shut.
