Tottenham star Christian Eriksen is reportedly considering a summer transfer to Manchester United, after his dream move to Real Madrid fell through.

According to a report from the Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen is open to a summer switch to Premier League rivals Manchester United, after European heavyweights Real Madrid decided to end their pursuit of the Dane.

Eriksen has been with Tottenham for six years now, having joined from Ajax in 2013 and has grown into one of the best attacking midfielders in the game since. The 2018-19 campaign saw the 27-year-old come up with an impressive return of 10 goals and 17 assists from across all competitions, helping Spurs to the fourth-place in the Premier League and the Champions League final.

However, post the defeat to Liverpool in the final, Eriksen revealed that he is considering leaving Tottenham ahead of the next season as he sought a new challenge in his career, with Real Madrid being his favoured destination. There had been strong interest from the Spanish capital club as well, so it seemed that a transfer could very well be on the cards.

But, since then, Real Madrid have decided to end their pursuit of Eriksen and turn their focus on Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba. Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane has demanded the club to sign his compatriot to boost their midfield department, which has put Eriksen in a bit of a transfer limbo.

Eriksen remains keen on an exit from Tottenham and the North Londoners too are open to cashing in on the 27-year-old, given that he is set to enter the final year of his contract. However, with a move to Real Madrid not on, the Danish star is reportedly considering a transfer to Manchester United.

Manchester United are in the market for a new midfielder and their need for one would only increase should Pogba end up joining Real Madrid in the summer. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to add a creative element to his side and to that end, has identified Eriksen as someone who could help his team break into the Premier League top four next season, after a forgetful 2018-19 term.

The 27-year-old had decided to snub the overtures from Manchester United, but having seen his dream move to Real Madrid collapse, is open to a transfer to the 20-time English champions, despite the fact that they will be playing in the Europa League next season.

The report adds that apart from Manchester United, Juventus is also an option for the playmaker, with the Serie A champions looking to build a team capable of lifting the Champions League. However, both the teams will have to meet Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy’s valuation of £100 million if they intend to sign Eriksen.

With the player intent on leaving and the club also not standing in his way, there is a strong possibility that Eriksen might not be a Tottenham player next season. But, it remains to be seen if he ends up sealing a transfer to Manchester United or ends up somewhere else.
