Tottenham star Christian Eriksen has reportedly rejected the advances of Manchester United, as he prefers a move to Spain this summer.

English journalist Tom McDermott has claimed that Danish international Christian Eriksen has no wish to swap Tottenham for Premier League rivals Manchester United. The Red Devils have enquired about the 27-year-old, who favours a switch to Spain instead of joining the record English champions.

Christian Eriksen has been one of the pillars of success for Tottenham in their ascent over the last few seasons, which have seen them become a regular Champions League outfit. Spurs nearly did one better this past season as they reached the Champions League final, and the Dane was integral to their success, with 10 goals and 17 assists in 51 appearances.

His overall record for the Tottenham is quite impressive as well, with 66 goals and 86 assists in 277 outings – a direct contribution every 148 minutes. Such figures have seen him command the status of being one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. As a result, it is no wonder that Manchester United appear to be interested in him.

As per Tom McDermott, Manchester United have asked their Premier League rivals about Eriksen, whose arrival could provide a big boost to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad. With Paul Pogba facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford in the wake of his most recent comments, the Dane could be a top class replacement for United.

Alternatively, Eriksen could be a solution for a number of positions, be it in a midfield diamond or an attacking trident, including the dreadful right wing slot. And, what could have provided Manchester United some hope in pursuit of the 27-year-old are his own comments hinting at being open to leaving Spurs this summer.

But, Eriksen has no interest in swapping Tottenham with their Premier League rivals Manchester United for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the Danish international prefers a switch to Spain, where Real Madrid, who are coincidentally also keen on Pogba, appear to be interested.

Los Blancos are reportedly weighing up the two options, meaning Eriksen could get his wish. The second, and perhaps the more damning reason, is the fact that Manchester United will not be able to offer any Champions League football next season.

As Eriksen can simply play in Europe’s premier cup competition next season before departing Spurs on a free transfer, if he so wishes to, the move to Manchester United makes little sense. And so, the Red Devils must turn their attention elsewhere in search of midfielder reinforcements. As for Eriksen, it remains to be seen if he can complete his desire to move to Spain this summer.
