Real Madrid are reportedly set to offer £45 million plus Spanish midfielder Dani Ceballos in order to sign Christian Eriksen from Tottenham Hotspur.

According to a report from The Sun, La Liga giants Real Madrid are ready to act on their interest in Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen. The Merengues are set to launch a £45 million offer for the Danish international and will also allow midfielder Dani Ceballos to move the other way in order to get the deal done.

Real Madrid have made an explosive start to the summer transfer window, having made as many as five signings till date, including that of Belgian international Eden Hazard. Manager Zinedine Zidane has his eyes set on a new midfielder next, with Tottenham’s Eriksen emerging as a potential target for the club.

Speculations have further intensified after Eriksen claimed that he was ready for a new challenge and a move to Real Madrid would appeal to him. The fact that he has only a year left on his current contract might force Spurs’ hand into offloading him this summer, with the 27-year-old unlikely to sign a new deal judging by his recent statements.

Earlier reports had claimed that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy was demanding a fee around the £80 million mark for Eriksen. But, Real Madrid, having already spent heavily in the transfer window, are set to offer the Lilywhites £45 million plus a player in exchange in the form of Dani Ceballos.

22-year-old Ceballos has been with Real Madrid for two years now, having signed from Real Betis in 2017. But, he hasn’t been able to establish himself as a regular in Los Blancos’ first-team. Last season saw the Spaniard feature on just 34 occasions in all competitions, with only 13 of them being starts in the La Liga.

Ceballos’ appearances further reduced after Zidane returned as the Real Madrid manager in March, following which the player has informed the Frenchman that he wants an exit in the summer, according to the report. The Spaniard has been on Tottenham’s radar in the past and the chance to sign him could appeal to them, although they remain keen on holding onto Eriksen.

Real Madrid’s midfield looked off-colour last season with Luka Modric seemingly past his prime, while Toni Kroos struggled to maintain his usual standards. The likes of Isco and Ceballos too could not muster up decent performances on a consistent basis. So, it makes total sense that the Merengues are keen on strengthening the midfield department.

But, it remains to be seen if Real Madrid will be able to convince Tottenham to part ways with Eriksen this summer. They have also been linked with a move for Manchester United’s Paul Pogba as well. So, there is a good chance that either of the two could end up at the Bernabeu next season. One thing is for certain though, Real Madrid’s spending spree this summer is far from over.
