Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira is reportedly in line for a new four-year deal with the Premier League club.

According to a report by The Sun, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been left impressed by the performances of Andreas Pereira. The Manchester United manager has thus, advised the club to hand the Brazilian midfielder a new four-year deal, which will tie him down at Old Trafford till the summer of 2023.

Pereira has had to bide his time since graduating from the Manchester United academy in 2014. After initially spending two years with the Under-23 side, the Brazilian international was away on loan for a couple of seasons at La Liga sides Granada and Valencia.

2018-19 though, turned out to be the breakthrough season at Manchester United for Pereira. While he did not feature a great deal when Jose Mourinho was still in-charge of the club, the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saw him being involved in some important fixtures.

By the end of the season, Pereira had made 23 appearances across all competitions and also opened his account in the Premier League. Through his performances, the 23-year-old also showcased his ability to reprise a few different roles. And, it looks like he has managed to impress Solskjaer.

The Sun have claimed that Pereira, who saw his deal with Manchester United being extended by 12 months earlier this year, is set to be handed a new four-year contract. The new deal would see him being tied to the Red Devils till the summer of 2023.

Manchester United are in the middle of a rebuilding process that has initiated with the announcement that they have agreed a deal for Daniel James. But, uncertainty looms over the state of the midfield department.

The Premier League heavyweights have seen Ander Herrera depart as a free agent. The Spaniard’s departure leaves Solskjaer with just six options at his disposal for four possible positions in midfield, should he continue fielding the midfield diamond (three if he utilises the 4-3-3).

Among these, Juan Mata faces an uncertain future at Manchester United, while Nemanja Matic is in the twilight of his career. With no deal sealed for a midfielder so far, securing the future of Pereira, who showed some promise this season, makes a great deal of sense.

It now remains to be seen if Andreas Pereira is indeed offered a new long-term contract by Manchester United. If he is, we could see the Brazilian international grow further within the first-team setup following his breakthrough campaign at Old Trafford.
