Manchester United have officially confirmed that a deal has been agreed with Swansea to sign highly-rated Welsh winger Daniel James in the summer.

Manchester United have issued an official statement on their social media platforms, website included, to confirm their capture of Daniel James. The Red Devils have confirmed to have agreed a deal with Swansea to sign the Welsh international in the summer, with James already passing the medical.

There is no mention of a fee, with the confirmation stating that more details of the transfer will follow suit when the official transfer window opens. But, according to earlier reports, Manchester United will end up paying a total of £18 million, which is broken into £15 million upfront and £3 million in add-ons.

Daniel James has been linked to Manchester United for a fair while now. The speculation started after the Swansea winger ended his 2018-19 campaign with 4 goals and 9 assists in the Championship, showcasing his raw pace, directness and ability to influence proceedings.

Manchester United needed to add wingers to their squad, especially with the right wing having no takers while Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez are rumoured to be on the chopping block at Old Trafford. But, Solskjaer’s system and his tactical style made James the perfect fit at United.

One of the key features of Solskjaer’s tactical style is the fluid conversion from defence to attack, something that will be aided by the raw pace of James. After being disappointed by the result of their magnanimous transfer policy post Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United seemed to be favouring logical signings rather than mega signings.

Add to that the 21-year-old’s ability to play on either wing and the Swansea man looked like the perfect one to be the face of the new-look transfer policy. The deal was set to be completed a fortnight ago but got delayed due to the Swansea star’s family issues as Manchester United put talks on hold to allow Daniel James appropriate time to deal with the situation.

The player was reportedly having a medical on Thursday and it seems Manchester United have wasted no time in letting the world know of their latest capture, especially with reports of AS Monaco entering the fray in recent times.

Manchester United fans will likely welcome the new-look policy of going for talent and potential rather than brand value and will hope Daniel James be able to emulate the last Welsh winger to drive through on the wings at Old Trafford.
