Real Madrid have, through an official announcement on their social media platforms, confirmed an agreement with Chelsea to sign Eden Hazard.

According to an official confirmation from Real Madrid, Chelsea mega star Eden Hazard is set to don the legendary white jersey for the 2019-20 season and beyond. The confirmation states that Real Madrid have agreed a deal with the Europa League winners to sign Hazard in the summer.

Real Madrid have further stated that Hazard has agreed a five-year deal with the club. The transfer is set to be completed once the transfer window opens on June 11. The Belgian will be unveiled by the club on June 13 after the Chelsea superstar undergoes a medical.

Eden Hazard has been the torchbearer for Chelsea since his move from LOSC Lille in 2012. In his seven-year association with the London giants, Hazard bagged several top honours including two Premier League trophies, an FA Cup and two Europa League titles. The Belgian was also rewarded for his individual performances with the PFA Player of the Year award in the 2014-15 season.

The 2018-19 season saw Hazard singlehandedly carry Chelsea’s attack, with the frontline misfiring. The Belgian ended the Premier League season with 16 goals and 15 assists to his name with a 49% contribution towards Chelsea’s goals. Given the fact that most of his appearances came out wide, finishing the campaign with 21 goals and 17 assists is magnificent.

Real Madrid have always been touted as the ultimate destination for Hazard. There has been a feeling in the present season that the Belgian had somewhat outgrown Chelsea and with a transfer ban looming on the club, it would be tough for them to provide enough reinforcements to challenge for major honours.

With Zinedine Zidane back at the helm at Real Madrid, the summer transfer window was billed as the perfect time for Hazard to complete the switch. For days, there was talk of an agreement between the club and the player, with Real Madrid and Chelsea still not being able to come to an agreement in terms of transfer fee.

But, with the announcement, it seems Chelsea and Real Madrid have finally agreed a fee, which would come as a relief for Hazard, who had hinted at a goodbye after the Europa League triumph. There have been rumours floating of a three-figure fee for Hazard and it will be interesting to see if either club confirms the transfer fee involved.

For now, it will be time for Real Madrid fans to rejoice on the confirmation of Eden Hazard’s impending arrival. Chelsea fans will hope their transfer ban is frozen or removed by CAS, lest they will find it hard to replace a player of Hazard’s calibre from within.
