Manchester United are reportedly lining up a summer move for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Sebastien Haller as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku.
Eintracht Frankfurt might be set to lose both of their star strikers in the summer transfer window, according to Daily Mail. Luka Jovic has already been confirmed to be a Real Madrid player from the season ahead. And as per the report, Manchester United are lining up a move for Sebastien Haller.
The report states that Manchester United are looking to engineer a move for Haller considering the fact that Romelu Lukaku is being linked with Inter Milan. The Red Devils are reportedly happy to offload Lukaku and bring in a replacement, with the Eintracht Franfkurt star being lined up by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
While Luka Jovic absorbed all the plaudits in what was a thunderous 2018-19 campaign from him, Sebastien Haller silently added another solid season under his belt at Eintracht Frankfurt. 15 goals and 9 assists in Bundesliga itself, Haller made sure Jovic had enough support in attack and Frankfurt had another option in case Jovic failed to fire in any match.
Frankfurt have managed to qualify for European football for the 2019-20 campaign. But, it is set to come at a heavy price. While Jovic is already set for Real Madrid, Manchester United are eyeing a summer move for Sebastien Haller to replace the misfiring Romelu Lukaku,
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s arrival has pushed Romelu Lukaku down the pecking order. The Belgian is no longer the one to spearhead the Manchester United frontline, with the manager preferring Marcus Rashford in that position. Solskjaer though, has shown a penchant to field a two-pronged attack and might look to do the same in the 2019-20 season.
Manchester United might consider cashing in on Lukaku, with the striker being lined up by Antonio Conte as part of his Inter Milan rebuild. If Lukaku departs, Solskjaer will be left with just Rashford and Mason Greenwood as the natural options upfront. Thus, a striker will be necessary in the summer and Haller might prove to be the perfect fit.
A classic number 9, Haller is known for his ability to bring his teammates into play and create for others as much as for his own self. Haller’s height and ability to hold the ball will ensure United do not miss Lukaku while his passing and touch will enable the Red Devils maintain fluidity in their attack, which seems to be Solskjaer’s priority.
Firstly, the 24-year-old has already shown he can play second fiddle to a leading striker and still manage goals on a regular basis at Frankfurt. Also, Haller seems to be hitting a new stride in his footballing career and could be primed for the next step up in the proverbial ladder.
However, Frankfurt might not buy into the idea of losing both of their star strikers in a single transfer window. While they are unlikely to ask a figure similar to what Real Madrid paid for Jovic, to Manchester United for Haller, the Bundesliga outfit will look to place a hefty price tag in order to either scare United off or rake in as much as they can from the transfer.
Haller isn’t a locked target for Manchester United, not according to reports, at least. The Red Devils have also been linked to Robert Lewandowski recently. But, the Polish striker will likely demand exorbitant wages along with a hefty price tag, compared to Haller.
Haller will likely be open to a move, with Manchester United already offering the same level of European football as Frankfurt, ideally with a better upscale compared to the Bundesliga club. This looks like a rumour that could turn out to be true. But, it will entirely depend on Manchester United’s ability to move Lukaku off their books.
