Arsenal have reportedly sent scouts to watch over Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz, who is also being courted by Bayern Munich.

According to Calciomercato, Arsenal are monitoring the progress of Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz as they aim to bulk up their creative options next summer. It is believed that the Gunners have sent scouts to watch over the German whizkid, who is already a well-established midfielder in the Bundesliga.

However, the Premier League outfit could face still competition from Bayern Munich, who have also identified Havertz as their desired transfer target.

The Bavarians are looking to revamp their attacking department, in the wake of Arjen Robben’s impending departure from the club at the end of the season. In addition, Franck Ribery has also shown signs of deterioration while James Rodriguez is likely to return to Santiago Bernabeu after failing to fit into Niko Kovac’s gameplan this season.

Therefore, the addition of someone like Havertz could be imperative as they look to continue their dominance in the Bundesliga as well as making a mark in Europe next season.

As for Arsenal, they are also in need of reinforcements in the creative department in the summer. Star man Mesut Ozil has found it difficult to integrate into Unai Emery’s playing style this season, having amassed just over 1,000 minutes of league action.

And with the player still on a hefty £350,000-a-week contract, Arsenal will be more than happy to offload the former German international in the summer.

Furthermore, Aaron Ramsey has recently agreed a move to Juventus on a free transfer while Henrikh Mkhitaryan has struggled with both form and consistency over the past 12 months, thus accentuating the need of a new attacking midfielder.

Havertz, in that regard, seems like an appealing target for the Gunners as they look to compete with Premier League’s top dogs next season. The German sensation is known for his technical brilliance as well as his tenacity in midfield while his excellent ball-carrying ability could help him ease Arsenal’s transition from midfield to attack.

And with players like Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira operating at the base of Emery’s formation, Havertz, considering his excellent ball carrying quality and creativity, will be able to take full advantage of the quick turnovers in midfield, thus making Arsenal much more dangerous on the counter.

However, it could certainly be difficult for the Gunners to get hold of the Leverkusen starlet with Bayern Munich already plotting a £50 million plus move in the summer, as per a report from the Daily Mirror. It remains to be seen whether Havertz ends up joining Bayern or Arsenal in the summer, or if he ends up staying put at Leverkusen.
