Liverpool are trying to poach Red Bull Salzburg star Moanes Dabour during the winter transfer window as a backup for Roberto Firmino.

According to Mirror, the scouts at Liverpool have been tracking Mounes Dabour for quite a while and a signing is a very likely in January. The Israeli striker was watched in Austria by Liverpool scouts and has caught the eye of Jurgen Klopp after having a phenomenal season in the Austrian Bundesliga.

The FC Red Bull Salzburg striker has netted 16 goals from 26 appearances this season. The 26 year old is also the league’s top scorer and has played a major role to propel the team to the top of the table.

The Reds are contemplating the signing of this €15 million striker as a backup for Roberto Firmino. The Brazilian striker had experienced a brief spell on the sidelines in September and missed out on a couple of fixtures. Liverpool wouldn’t want to take any risks which could affect their position on the top of the table after their recent victory against Newcastle United.

Prior to playing for Red Bull Salzburg, the Arab-Israeli star had played for Grasshopper Club Zurich, Maccabi Tel Aviv and Maccabi Nazareth.

His Israeli citizenship might not fall in favour with that of the club superstar, Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian striker had refused to shake hands with the players of Maccabi Tel Aviv way back in 2014. Reason behind this is a political one and Salah has been told that it isn’t his choice whom Liverpool would sign.

Egyptian media outlets believe and state that, Salah would leave Liverpool if the Israeli striker joins the ranks of the Reds. Liverpool are in dire need of a backup striker and are working on a shoestring budget to make it happen. Not many choices are spread out there for a small purse, but Dabour is brilliant value for money.

There haven’t been formal talks yet, but if things get serious, Salah’s actions would become unpredictable. However, it could be safe to assume that the Anfield based team wouldn’t do anything to upset their star player, but Dabour would remain as the apt backup for the team when they continue their season in pursuit of Champions League and Premier League triumphs.
