Aaron Ramsey to leave Arsenal on a free transfer amid a transfer saga as the player sets sights on running down his contract.

Arsenal could be dealt with a significant blow as another one of their major stars is set to leave the club at the end of the season. According to The Guardian, Aaron Ramsey is ready to run down his contract which ends at the end of the season to leave on a free transfer during the summer.

Ramsey’s situation has come under the microscope recently after a breakdown in talks and the club have subsequently rescinded the previously tabled contract offer for the midfielder. Until now it was only reported, but now Ramsey himself has confirmed the news.

After Wales’ defeat to Spain Ramsey told the press, “So I just have to carry on playing my football and do my best for Arsenal this season, and I’ll leave the rest with the club.

“Am I disappointed? That’s a decision they have made, and things happen in football, and you just have to get on with it. That’s all I am concentrating on and giving my best for Arsenal.”

This means, Ramsey could leave the club after 11 years, a piece of news that would please other Premier League giants such as Manchester United and Chelsea as both teams are on the hunt for a proven midfielder with goalscoring abilities, and Ramsey could be seen as an ideal fit.

Manchester United have their situation ongoing with Paul Pogba, as there are reports of multiple rifts between the player and manager Jose Mourinho. Either one of the two are expected to leave the club in by the end of the season, but Manchester United will not waste the opportunity to sign Ramsey, a player they were interested in 10 years ago.

On the other hand, Chelsea too could look to make their presence felt to Ramsey and sound out a potential deal for the midfielder. With the future of Cesc Fabregas and on-loan star Mateo Kovacic uncertain, the Blues will look to bring in Ramsey on a long-term basis. As such, Chelsea have been missing a goalscoring midfielder from their roster since Franck Lampard departed the club.

In any case, it would be a big blow for Arsenal, as Ramsey seems unhappy about the entire situation surrounding his contract saga. However, Ramsey has not explicitly stated he would leave the club, but considering current circumstances that could be the case.

Ramsey has, however, left the door open on Arsenal to offer another deal as the player seems to be willing to stay and continue his career here. Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright also recently suggested that Ramsey might be ready to stay and the club too might want to extend the contract, but no new development on that front has been seen yet.

Arsenal and Ramsey were reportedly close to agreeing on terms on a new deal during the summer, as the club allegedly rejected a reported £50 million offer from a rival. But since, Arsenal have withdrawn the offer on the table amid Ramsey’s reported salary demands to be on par with some of the club’s new signings in Mkhitaryan, Lacazette and Aubameyang.

Fans will be hoping the club resolve the situation sooner and would want Ramsey to continue his career at the club. Only the coming weeks or months will reveal something more in the case, as Arsenal might offer an extension. However, as of now, Ramsey is all set to leave Arsenal on a free transfer at the end of the season.
