Transfer News: Manchester United plotting January move for Aaron Ramsey

Manchester United are reportedly plotting a January move for Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who is also a target for Chelsea.

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United could decide to move for Aaron Ramsey in January. The Arsenal midfielder is already on the radar of Manchester United and Chelsea, as per The Sun. And it seems the Red Devils could launch an attempt for the Welshman in January.

His is a name that has been doing the rounds in the transfer market for a while now. Arsenal seem to be heading towards a contract standoff quite similar in the case of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil during the 2017-18 season.

Unlike the two though, Ramsey is a different prospect. He is not just one of the players at Arsenal. The midfielder embodies the spirit and hope of Arsenal and their penchant of producing world-class stars. But, of late, the player has been in the midst of a contract standoff with the club and is attracting the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea.

Maurizio Sarri seems to have enough options in midfield, with N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Ross Barkley, Danny Drinkwater, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mateo Kovacic. But, the club is expected to dispose off with Drinkwater in January, if not the summer transfer window at least, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek is tipped to seal a loan deal away from Chelsea.

Chelsea attempted to sign Ramsey before the English transfer window slammed shut, to no avail.

Likewise, Manchester United signed Fred in the summer. With Andreas Pereira returning to be a regular part of the first-team setup, the midfield does look stacked. However, Paul Pogba is being linked with a move away from the club, with agent Mino Raiola attempting to stir up quite a storm through his tweets.

United are reportedly looking to mount an attempt to sign Aaron Ramsey in January. But, a move for the Welshman would only make sense if Pogba were to leave. The two players are almost identical in their playing style and average position on the field.

If the two end up playing together in midfield, it could create another overload problem like on the left wing. Ramsey will also be wary of going into the bad books of Arsenal fans by joining Alexis Sanchez and Robin van Persie as the players to swap Arsenal for Manchester United.

This looks like a move which depends more on Paul Pogba’s future than other aspects.
