Chelsea have reportedly opened talks with Borussia Dortmund over a possible deal for Christian Pulisic, who is also a summer target for Liverpool

According to a report by Daily Mirror, Chelsea have stepped up their efforts to sign Christian Pulisic before the summer transfer window slams shut. The Borussia Dortmund prodigy, who has a £65 million price tag, is also being targeted for a move by Liverpool.

Pulisic has generated quite a buzz around his prodigious talent since breaking into the first-team setup at Borussia Dortmund in 2016. Over the last two years, the player has grown leaps and bounds. While there is still a lot of room for improvement in his game, his potential has already piqued the interest of some of the biggest clubs in the world.

Liverpool are one such club that has been in pursuit of the teenage wonderkid for a long time now. But, the Reds are not the only Premier League outfit vying for Pulisic’s signature, with Chelsea also holding an interest in him.

At Liverpool, the continued interest in Pulisic could be stemming from their inability to land Nabil Fekir. The 19-year-old’s exploits in Dortmund’s recent friendly against the Reds also seems to have helped reignite the pursuit. However, it is unclear as to how Pulisic will slot in as a regular at Anfield.

Chelsea, on the other hand, are in quite a precarious situation as far as their attacking unit is concerned. Eden Hazard now looks set to remain at Stamford Bridge. But, Willian’s future is heavily uncertain, with Real Madrid emerging as the latest suitor in his pursuit.

Pulisic is thus, a viable target for Chelsea, who could have a long-term replacement for the Brazilian in the United States international, and someone around whom future sides could be built. The report also suggests that the Blues are set to launch the offensive quickly to leave Liverpool in the wind in pursuit of the player.

Chelsea have opened talks with Borussia Dortmund, who seem to have softened their stance on Pulisic’s availability this summer. But, the West Londoners will have to move swiftly if they are to seal the deal in time before the summer transfer window slams shut, considering the threat from Liverpool still remains.

Any deal for Pulisic will cost around £65 million. Chelsea should have very little problem shelling out the sum, if they end up selling Willian for their reported asking price. Even if the Brazilian ends up staying, the Blues have the financial might to complete the deal.

The race to sign Pulisic is getting increasingly interesting by the day, with Chelsea and Liverpool vying for his signature. An exciting next few days beckon as the August 9 deadline gets closer.
