Arsenal reportedly want to sign Sevilla midfielder Ever Banega, since Unai Emery wants to reunite with the midfielder at the North London club.

According to a report published by an English publication Mirror, Arsenal are looking forward to sign Ever Banega from Sevilla, and Unai Emery would be delighted to have his services for the Gunners from next season, as the new boss plans to convince the player to join.

Banega, who was brought to Sevilla by Emery in 2014, has been a significant part of Sevilla’s success in Europa league, as they won two successive titles under their former manager, making them the most successful club in the competition.

The Argentine international’s performances in the 2017-18 season were impressive, with the midfielder bagging 7 goals and 5 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions for Sevilla. Although, Sevilla had an underwhelming season as Los Nervionenses settled at 7th spot in La Liga last season.

After the appointment of Emery to Arsenal, it was assumed that the Spaniard will look to rebuild the squad at the Emirates. Moreover, it is believed that Banega is Emery’s first priority target this summer.

Additionally, the departure of Jack Wilshere is forcing them to get involved in the pursuit of Banega, as Arsenal fans are hopeful that Emery can revive their club after slipping into a period of stagnation under Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal have already confirmed the arrival of Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen and Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus on a free move, and even Medhi Benatia and Daniele Rugani might follow their Bianconeri teammate to Arsenal.

Additionally, the North London club are also after Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira, Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu. This is all despite the fact that Emery got a very modest budget at his disposal to sign all of his targets.

However, Banega would not cost a huge amount to Arsenal as the 29-year-old contract at Sevilla has a £17.5 million release clause. Furthermore, according to further claims by Mirror, Banega’s agent is believed to have flown to London to hold talks with Arsenal and reportedly had a successful outcome of it.

However, any further talks and negotiations are likely to take place after Banega returns from his campaign with Argentina at the World Cup in Russia, till then the developments remain to be seen, and also it is not yet known whether the midfielder is equally willing to reunite with Emery or not.
