Real Madrid are reportedly considering Liverpool manager as the possible successor to Zinedine Zidane in the summer.

According to a report by The Sun, Real Madrid are laying down the contingency plan in case they end up parting ways with Zinedine Zidane at the end of the season. Featuring on the top of their wishlist, is Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who could be on his way to the Bernabeu in the summer.

Klopp has overseen a promising change in fortunes for Liverpool, who are now genuine contenders, at least for a top four spot, if not the Premier League title. The Reds have also done exceedingly well in the Champions League this season – their first campaign in the competition under the German.

As Liverpool look set to clinch a top four spot once again this season, it is clear that Klopp has had a very telling impact at Anfield. But, just as his project seems to be taking shape, the manager could be on his way out of the Merseyside club, with Real Madrid looking to get a hold of him.

At the Bernabeu, Zinedine Zidane’s future has been under a cloud over the last few months due to Los Blancos‘ poor campaign in La Liga. Real Madrid have faltered massively in their defence of the league title, and are currently 16 points behind champions-elect Barcelona.

The Spanish heavyweights also suffered embarrassment in Copa del Rey at the hands of Leganes, but their fantastic campaign in the Champions League has eased the pressure off Zidane. Real Madrid look primed to qualify for the semi-finals and a third successive triumph in the competition could help him secure his job.

But, failure to win Europe’s premier club competition could see the Frenchman depart from the Bernabeu, making Klopp a viable target to take over the reigns at the club. The German’s pro-attack style of play would fit well at Real Madrid, and he would bring about a sense of attacking impetus that has been missing for large parts of the season.

Liverpool have been one of the most free scoring outfits in all of Europe this season, almost scoring goals at will at times, which suggests Klopp might be able to optimally utilise his resources at Real Madrid. Any move to the Spanish capital though, depends on Los Blancos‘ performance in the rest of their Champions League campaign.

It now remains to be seen if Klopp indeed ends up replacing Zidane at Real Madrid, with the Frenchman’s job far from safe in the Spanish capital.
