Real Madrid have reportedly identified Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp as a possible replacement for current boss Zinedine Zidane.

According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Real Madrid are considering their options if they part ways with manager Zinedine Zidane at the end of the season. Los Blancos are considering current Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp as a possible replacement at the helm at Santiago Bernabeu.

Zidane has enjoyed stupendous success during his time at Real Madrid, having originally replaced Rafael Benitez at the helm at the Bernabeu. In his first season-and-a-half in charge of the club, Los Blancos won back-to-back Champions League titles – the first ever side to do so – as well as a La Liga triumph.

But, the 2017-18 season hasn’t quite gone to plan, with Real Madrid a massive 17 points adrift of bitter rivals Barcelona on the league table, and were booted out of Copa del Rey in the quarter-finals. Their only hope this season hinges on the Champions League, where they convincingly beat PSG in the Round of 16 first leg.

But, Zidane’s future at the club is highly uncertain, with the pressure mounting on him to deliver success once again this season. A trophyless campaign, though, could put his place under increased scrutiny, which is why Florentino Perez seems to be identifying possible replacement options, with Klopp one of his options.

The German tactician hasn’t had much success in terms of winning trophies while in charge of Liverpool, but he has managed to establish the Reds as a Champions League side. This season, the Merseyside club have been one of the most free scoring outfits in Europe and have been improving defensively as well.

So, it looks like Klopp’s project at Liverpool is finally taking shape, although Real Madrid could look to end it abruptly. The German’s pro-attack style of play would fit well at the Bernabeu, and he would introduce a sense of attacking impetus that has been missing this season.

As per the report though, Real Madrid will leave the final decision on Zidane, although his exit cannot be ruled out. It will be extremely difficult prise Klopp away from Liverpool though, considering he is loving life at Anfield and is held in high regard by everyone at the club.

It now remains to be seen if the German indeed replaces Zidane at Real Madrid or if the Frenchman remains at the helm.
